The tundra swan is the smallest of the Holarctic swans, 115–150 centimetres long with a wingspan of 168–211 centimetres and a weight of 3.4–9.6 kilograms. The adult plumage of both subspecies is entirely white, with black feet and a bill that is mostly black with a thin salmon-pink streak along the mouthline and, depending on subspecies, more or less yellow near the base. In birds living in waters rich in iron, such as bog lakes, the head and neck plumage can take on a golden or rusty hue. The tundra swan breeds in the Arctic and overwinters in North America, Europe and Asia. In summer it mainly eats aquatic vegetation, while at other times of year it often feeds on leftover crops such as potatoes. (Wikipedia, general species account)
