Basic stats

Range

Manchuria, eastern China and the Russian Far East

The reed parrotbill has a notably short, wide and deep bill. It is the only parrotbill to change its appearance with the breeding season. In winter, the non-breeding season, it has a pinkish-cream and ash-grey forehead and neck, with streaks of black and warm brown from above the eyes to the top of the head. (Wikipedia, general species account)

The region between the eyes and bill is a little whiter than the forehead, and a white-tinted stripe runs from the base of the bill above the eye towards the rear of the head. The species is found in Manchuria, eastern China and the Russian Far East and is threatened by habitat loss. The northern subspecies polivanovi is sometimes regarded as a separate species, the northern parrotbill. (Wikipedia, general species account)
