The brownish crown makes it easy to tell from the marsh and willow tits, and its voice is similar to the willow tit's, including a drawn-out dih repeated four or five times. It inhabits coniferous, riverine and mixed woods, especially birch woods or conifers mixed with birch. It occurs in northern Norway, Sweden and Finland, on the Kola Peninsula and across northern Russia to Alaska. (German Wikipedia, general species account)
