Zootoca vivipara
Diet
Small invertebrates
Habitat
Cool, moist heath, bog, meadow and woodland edge
The viviparous lizard is a small, rather slender lacertid with short legs and a long tail. Upperparts range from brown and olive to grey, usually with a dark vertebral line, pale dorsolateral stripes and rows of small spots. Males often show orange or yellow bellies flecked dark, whereas females are usually paler below. It is generally less robust and less green than a breeding male sand lizard. This cold-tolerant lizard occupies moist heath, bog margins, meadow and open woodland across northern Eurasia. It basks in daylight, swims readily, and feeds on insects, spiders and other small invertebrates. Most populations retain developing young and give birth to live offspring, although egg-laying populations occur in parts of the southern range. Animals hibernate during winter. The opened account gave no detailed Mongolian locality or local reproductive data, so no national site is proposed. (Wikipedia, viviparous lizard account)
