Eremias multiocellata
Diet
Small invertebrates
Habitat
Dry steppe, semi-desert and mountain valleys
The multi-ocellated racerunner is a slender lacertid named for the numerous pale, dark-edged eye-spots scattered along its flanks and back. The background is grey, olive or sandy brown, and narrow pale lines may run lengthwise. It has a pointed head, long limbs and a tapering tail. The density and arrangement of ocelli help distinguish it from other Mongolian racerunners, though close examination is often necessary. (Wikipedia, Eremias multiocellata account)
The species inhabits dry steppe, semi-desert, stony slopes and broad mountain valleys in Mongolia and adjoining Asian regions. It basks and hunts in daylight, using speed and nearby holes or low vegetation to escape danger. Small insects, spiders and other invertebrates form its food, and reproduction is by eggs. The opened account did not provide a named Mongolian protected area or a local breeding calendar, so neither is claimed here. (Wikipedia, Eremias multiocellata account)
