The desert wheatear is a migratory insect-eating chat, 14.5–15 centimetres long. The basal third of the tail feathers is white and the rest black with a pale buff tip. The upperparts of the summer male are buff. (Wikipedia, general species account)
The eastern race breeds in the semi-deserts of Central Asia in a wide band from the Middle East and Saudi Arabia through Iran, Baluchistan, Afghanistan, the south Caucasus, Turkestan, the Tarbagatai and Altai Mountains and northwestern Mongolia. These birds migrate south to winter in northeastern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Iraq and Pakistan. The western race breeds in North Africa from Morocco to western Egypt and is largely resident, with some birds in southern and eastern Morocco migrating. (Wikipedia, general species account)
