The Siberian rubythroat is slightly larger than a European robin. It is plain brown above except for a distinctive black tail with red side patches, and it has a strong white supercilium. The male has a red throat edged with a narrow black border and then a broad white one, while females lack the brightly coloured throat and borders. The male's song is similar to a harder version of the garden warbler's. It was first described by Peter Simon Pallas in 1776 and is often grouped with the chats. (Wikipedia, general species account)

The Siberian rubythroat is a migratory insect-eater that breeds in mixed coniferous forests with undergrowth in Siberia and winters in Thailand, India, Indonesia and Bangladesh. It is an extremely rare vagrant to western Europe, having reached as far west as Britain on a very few occasions, and an extremely rare vagrant to the Aleutian Islands, most notably Attu Island.
