Güldenstädt's redstart is about 15–16 centimetres long, clearly larger than the redstarts of Europe. Males in breeding plumage are unmistakable: the crown and nape are pale grey to white, the rest of the head, back, upper breast and wing coverts black, and the rest of the body, undertail coverts and rump, like the tail typical of the genus, bright dark orange to rusty red. The flight feathers are white at the base, forming a striking white wing patch. Females resemble female black redstarts in colour. (German Wikipedia, general species account)
