The Japanese quail is a member of the pheasant family that resembles the common quail in habit, behaviour and way of life. It is distributed across East Asia. Unlike the common quail it prefers damp flood meadows and avoids tall grass. In the Primorye region, damp cotton-grass meadows in groves of Japanese alder, with dry rises and shrub vegetation, are its typical habitat. (German Wikipedia, general species account)
