Habitat

Forest wetlands, floodplains and damp meadow

The Siberian wood frog is a medium-sized brown frog with a pointed snout, long hind legs and a dark mask extending through the eye. A pale stripe runs along the upper lip, and raised dorsolateral folds border the back. Colour varies from tan to dark brown, sometimes with blotches, while the underside is pale or mottled. It lacks the adhesive toe pads of tree frogs and has the athletic form typical of Rana. (Wikipedia, Rana amurensis account)

The species inhabits damp forest, river floodplains, marsh edges and meadows across northeastern Asia, including Mongolia. It spends much of the active season on land hunting insects and other small invertebrates, but returns to ponds and quiet shallow water to breed. Eggs are laid in gelatinous clumps and larvae develop in water. Winter is passed dormant in protected sites. The opened account did not identify a Mongolian reserve or dependable national breeding period, so no specific locality is recommended. (Wikipedia, Rana amurensis account)
