Père David's snowfinch is a relatively small snowfinch, 12–15 centimetres long, with a black forehead and throat and a sandy-brown crown and nape. It also has a white wing patch on the primary coverts and a streaked mantle. The species is fairly quiet, but flocks give a constant low twittering. The species name honours Armand David, the French missionary and naturalist who worked in China from 1858 to 1874. (Swedish Wikipedia, general species account)
This mountain-dwelling Asian bird lives in semi-desert, stony plains and rocky plateau with short dry grass at 1,000–3,000 metres. It breeds from May to July or early August, in single pairs or loose colonies. It is mostly resident, though some move to lower levels after breeding, even north of the breeding range. Its diet is poorly studied but includes small seeds of grasses and alpine plants and insects. (Swedish Wikipedia, general species account)
