Turdus naumanni
Size
23–25cm
Weight
63–81g
Naumann's thrush is 23–25 centimetres long and weighs 63–81 grams. Its marks are a conspicuous supercilium set against a dark cap and ear coverts, spots on the breast that form a band reaching to the flanks against a white underside, and a chestnut wing patch. The male is grey-brown above with a pale olive wash, a pale rufous to yellow-brown supercilium, rufous tips to the scapulars and median coverts, and a pale rufous tail. The male's song is short phrases with long pauses between, starting with a whistle and turning increasingly into a rough rattle. The call, a quapos, is often confused with the fieldfare's, and the song resembles the redwing's. The specific name refers to the German ornithologist Johann Andreas Naumann.
