Bucanetes mongolicus
Habitat
Mountainous stony desert, semi-arid scrub and rocky slopes
Range
Resident from eastern Turkey across the Caucasus and Central Asia to western China and Mongolia and south into Kashmir
The Mongolian finch, also called the Mongolian trumpeter finch, is a small, long-winged bird with a large head and a short, thick, greyish-yellow bill. In breeding plumage males have a pink flush to the face and underparts and extensive white and pink areas in the wings, a pattern also present but less marked in non-breeding plumage. Females have fainter, almost unnoticeable pink. Outside the breeding season it is fairly quiet; calls are rising nasal notes and chirrups, and the song is a jumbled series of the same notes.
