Carpodacus sibiricus
Range
Large parts of temperate Asia
Size
16–18cm
In build the Siberian long-tailed rosefinch resembles other rosefinches, at 16–18 centimetres, but stands out for a very long tail whose length varies strongly with subspecies. This gives it a resemblance to the long-tailed tit and other tits, also in movement and behaviour, which is where its German name comes from. (German Wikipedia, general species account)
The light yellowish bill is like that of the scarlet rosefinch but stronger, and the lower mandible has a distinct gonys angle with an arched, indented lower edge behind it. It lives across large parts of the temperate zone of Asia. Before being merged into the rosefinch genus Carpodacus it was the only member of the genus Uragus.
