The hooded crane breeds in south-central and southeastern Siberia, and breeding is also suspected in Mongolia. Over 80 percent of its population winters at Izumi in southern Japan, with other wintering grounds in South Korea and China, and about 100 winter each year at Chongming Dongtan in Shanghai, the largest natural wintering site in the world. One bird overwintered in southeastern Tennessee in December 2011, well outside its normal range. (Wikipedia, general species account)
