Corvus corax

Basic stats

Diet

Omnivorous; carrion and varied plant and animal foods

Habitat

Mountains, steppe, forest and settlements

The northern raven is a very large all-black corvid with a massive bill, shaggy throat feathers and a long wedge-shaped tail. Its plumage shows purple or blue gloss in good light. In flight the pointed, fingered wings and diamond-like tail separate it from crows, whose tails are rounded or square. Ravens soar readily and give deep croaking calls, although their vocal repertoire also includes knocks, clicks and imitations. (Wikipedia, common raven account)

Ravens occupy mountains, steppe, forest edges, coasts and settlements across the Northern Hemisphere. Highly adaptable omnivores, they eat carrion, insects, eggs, small vertebrates, grain, fruit and human food waste, and they cache surplus items. Pairs maintain territories and build bulky stick nests on cliffs, trees or structures; young birds may gather socially. The opened account establishes broad behaviour but not a particular Mongolian population or viewing place, so no local site or breeding date is stated. (Wikipedia, common raven account)
