Stylodipus sungorus

Basic stats

Range

Central Asia

Size

Head and body 12.5–13.0cm; tail 15–16.5cm

80–95g

With a head-and-body length of 125–130 millimetres, a tail of 150–165 millimetres and a weight of 80–95 grams, this jerboa is larger than the western thick-tailed three-toed jerboa and than small examples of the eastern one. It has hind feet of 54–57 millimetres and ears of 18–20 millimetres. The sandy fur of the upper side has grey tones and turns reddish-brown towards the flanks, with white fur underneath, and a white spot behind each ear is typical. In adults the tail serves as a fat store and thickens before the cold season. (German Wikipedia, general species account)

The Mongolian thick-tailed three-toed jerboa is a rodent of Central Asia in the jerboa family. A 2015 study found it to be the sister taxon of the western thick-tailed three-toed jerboa, though this placement and the relationship to the genus's third species still need confirming.
