Orientocoluber spinalis
Diet
Small vertebrates and invertebrates
Habitat
Dry steppe, rocky slopes and scrub
The slender racer is a narrow-bodied, long-tailed snake with a distinct pale stripe running along the middle of a dark brown or blackish back. Additional pale lines may border the flanks, and the underside is light. Its head is only slightly wider than the neck and the eyes are relatively large. The bold lengthwise stripe and exceptionally slim form help distinguish it from the more blotched steppe ratsnake. (Wikipedia, Orientocoluber spinalis account)
This nonvenomous racer ranges across Mongolia, northern China, Korea and adjoining Russia, occupying dry steppe, rocky slopes, open woodland and scrub. It is active by day and relies on speed, searching for lizards, small rodents, nestling birds and large invertebrates. Eggs are laid in sheltered sites. The opened account did not identify a dependable Mongolian viewing area or country-specific breeding timetable, so these notes remain general rather than assigning observations to a particular reserve.
