The brown bear is a powerfully built bear with a prominent shoulder hump, a dished facial profile, small rounded ears, and long foreclaws. Coat colour varies widely from pale blond through brown to nearly black, so colour alone is unreliable. Adults also vary greatly in size across the enormous range. The shoulder hump and relatively straight upper body distinguish it from the black bears where their ranges meet. (Wikipedia, general species account)
Brown bears are omnivores whose foods shift with place and season; plant matter, insects, fish, carrion, and vertebrate prey can all be important. They usually live alone outside mating and family groups, and occupy forests, shrublands, tundra, and mountain country across northern Eurasia and North America. Bears den through the coldest months in much of the range. The opened sources did not support a specific Mongolian viewing locality. (Wikipedia, general species account)
