Ikh Nart protects rocky outcrops and semi-desert steppe in eastern Dornogovi. The reserve is especially well suited to observing argali because broken hills overlook broad open valleys, though animals remain wary and should be watched from a distance. Springs and temporary pools create local concentrations of life in an otherwise dry landscape. Raptors nest on cliffs, small mammals occupy the plains, and patient dawn or evening walks reveal far more than a quick midday drive.
