Hustai protects rolling mountain steppe west of Ulaanbaatar and is best known for the reintroduction of Przewalski's horse, locally called takhi. Open slopes and valleys make wildlife viewing unusually accessible by Mongolian standards. Red deer, marmots and raptors share the grassland mosaic, while birch patches and rocky ridges add variety. Dawn and late afternoon offer the most comfortable light and the best chance of observing animals moving between grazing and resting areas.
